Green Turtles of Akumal Bay

Akumal Bay is a paradise for observing green turtles, where hundreds of them thrive in their natural habitat. This particular photograph captures the fascinating relationship between the turtles and their remoras. As the turtles graze on seagrass, the remoras attach themselves and feed on their chlorophyll-rich waste, turning their own skin green or yellowish. This cycle of life showcases nature's intricate balance. Spending time here allowed me to document this unique interaction in a way that tells the story of their symbiotic connection.
The Wonders of Akumal’s Marine Ecosystem
Photographing green turtles in Akumal Bay is always an inspiring experience. Their slow movements and serene demeanor create an atmosphere of peace beneath the waves. The crystal-clear waters and vibrant seagrass beds provide a perfect backdrop to showcase these turtles' behaviors, reminding us of the importance of preserving such ecosystems.
